Turkey as Ground Zero for World War III?

Two articles on what may be the beginning of a drastic shift for Turkey.  The first is from Asia Times Spengler and explictly says that the time of the Kemalist, secular republic may be coming to an end.  The other, plays on this theme by comparing the current situation of Turkey to the historical situation of Pakistan.

I am not sure this is where things are headed.  However, with Europe clearly not wanting to embrace Turkey as a potential EU member, it is looking for alternatives.  Will that alternative be in the Middle East as it was during the Ottomon period?  Also, will, as the second article suggests, Saudi Arabia, flush with oil cash, begin funding a Wahabbist set within Turkey to aid it as it seeks containment of a Shiite Iran?

If America leaves the region, the Saudis may have nowhere to go.  The Middle East is a morass we will never escape until we can downgrade the importance of oil.  However, no matter what, that's still a long ways away.  This all means, we better watch this situation.  My bet would be that the Turkish military is a better bet than the current leadership.

Iran is a problem, so is Saudi Arabia, though for different reasons.  Factor in the needs of external powers for Middle Eastern oil, like China, and the proximity to Russia, this region is still ripe for a spark like the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand that ignited World War I.  It may not happen, but then again, a lot of surprises "May Not" happen up to the moment that they do.
