61% of Historians Rate Bush Worst President

It is ridiculously early to make this kind of sweeping statement.  However, President Bush is unlikely to be remembered fondly by academia.  Even those who have supported him for much of his term wonder whether is lack of communication skills and the competence of his administration have tarnished a Presidency of much potential.  I find myself in this category, deeply disappointed.  I think Bush walked a razor's edge and was close to near greatness, but he fell on the wrong side and the fall was far.  However, events certainly conspired to make this outcome more likely.  With that in mind, I view Bush as being almost tragic in a classical Greek way as opposed to being the historical travesty of so much caricature.  Perhaps, history will even yet prove kinder to him than it seems at this moment.
