American Declinism
Yet another winning piece from Policy Review. This one focuses on the history of American "declinism." It reviews the history of American's past sense of its own decline in an effort to place into context the current Iraq-era debate over America's decline in to a broader context. Very useful. We certainly could be at the beginning of a new era where we will gradually decline in power, especially vis avis other great powers. Yet, this is not guaranteed and we still have much power to make this nation what we know it can and should be. Listening to declinist arguments should act as a call to action in order to prevent the prophecies from becoming reality.
