Great article dealing with the sophisticated foreign policy of China .  When you look at this and watch their relations with Russia in the SCO, you realize that China keeps their eye on the prize much better than the United States .  Some of that is inevitable since China is still an authoritarian, single party run state that doesn’t have to concern itself with democracy.  On the other hand, this should be a wakeup call that sophisticated policy can work wonders for international public relations.  A country that as little back as 1989 was being demonized thanks to the Tiananmen Square massacre is now more popular around the world than the US despite a much worse human rights record and despite their support for regimes with atrocious human rights records.  I guess by being honest about their not caring about what happens inside a country and defending the absolute inviolability of state sovereignty, China has found a way not to get labeled “hypocrite.”  This combined with a gargantuan market for other countries to trade with is a real success story for China and, though not a positive lesson, a lesson, nonetheless for the United States.
