Krauthammer on the New Republic ’s Private Beauchamp

I always love Krauthammer and this article is no different.  For those who are aware the New Republic has run a series of stories from a certain Private Beauchamp who has served in Iraq .  The gist of the stories are that the war has turned previously likable people into callous monsters.  Now, there is information that casts doubt on the veracity of these stories, for example, one of the most disturbing stories that supposedly happened in Iraq, actually transpired (according to the New Republic) in Kuwait before Beauchamp arrived in the “war zone.”

I don’t doubt that horrible things have happened and that the war has left indelible marks on those who have served.  But if the intent of those articles is to delegitimize the entire effort, I think they are a failure.  You have to have your facts right to be profound.  Krauthammer nails this one.
