Strickland as Veep?

Rumors are beginning to circulate that Strickland may be a good VP choice for the eventual Democratic Presidential nominee.  I think this is smart politicking, but I don’t see it really happening.  The Dems need Strickland to deliver the Ohio vote (part of the reason he was pickled to run for Governor in the first place), but I am not sure him being on the ticket is that helpful.  He can be just as effective winning Ohio sitting in the Governor’s mansion than on the trail and I am not sure he brings that much clout outside the state.

I have speculated Obama would be Hillary’s running mate (I believe Hillary really is inevitable), but I am beginning to doubt it.  Obama is beginning to flame out and look like too much of a novice and won’t bring as many votes as you’d think.  Hillary will wrap up African Americans with or without him, so what does she need to do to expand her base?  The name I am beginning to hear is Bill Richardson.  He’s close to her and her husband (part of Bill’s Administration).  He is the Governor of New Mexico, a nominally swing western state, he is the first Hispanic to run nationwide, and now is being christened as the top of second tier Democrat Presidential candidates.  Oh yeah, and he has negotiated with the North Koreans too (so he’s a diplomat!).  Some observers whose opinion I respect have mentioned this and I think now that is much more likely than Ted or Barack.
