US House Passes Wiretap Measure

The House passed a revision to the FISA statute yesterday.  A lot of Democrats and civil libertarians are upset.  I am reserving judgement.  I partially agree that this could be the beginning of a very slippery slope towards Orwellville.  That said, I also don't think the Constitution is a suicide pact that ties our hands, especially in light of new dangers that are beyond the imagination of any of the Founding Fathers.  We will have to see what happens.  I think these days are dangerous for if we are ever hit by an event worse than 9/11, I think all bets may well be off in terms of the reaction demanded of the President whomever that may be.
