Realism in Africa- Background on Our Relationship With Ethiopia
Several months ago we backed the Ethiopian intervention in Somalia as a way to get rid of the Islamic umbrella group that had assumed power. Then we tagged along with their invasion to attack some high value al-Qaeda targets we believe to have been involved with the 1998 African Embassy bombings (the first time most Americans heard of Osama bin Laden). Now questions are arising whether we should be doing business with what is not a particularly savory regime in Ethiopia . These questions never cease. Again, it’s called realism. Its very confusing, but all relevant as it relates to our desire not to allow bases of operation for terrorist organizations.
